The Ora Good Cat may be the best value EV in New Zealand

Near instant acceleration, zero-carbon emissions, cutting-edge technology – there’s no denying that electric vehicles (EVs) are cool. But the problem is, most models are too expensive for everyday Kiwis. Until now.

The Good Cat is a brand new Chinese EV, under the Ora brand – an all-electric offshoot of Great Wall Motors. And it may just be the best value EV in New Zealand yet.

Introducing the Ora Good Cat

The Ora Good Cat is poised to become the lowest price EV in the New Zealand market when it arrives in March 2023. Despite that low pricing this little pocket rocket is packed with features and sports a cool old school design that Ora are calling ‘retrofuturistic’.
It’s a small to medium hatch with a decent 230 litre boot that expands to 852 litres with the seats down. The Cat has a 5-star safety rating and comes in two models:

1. The Standard with 320 km of range
2. The Long range with 420 km

What’s with the name? 

In Chinese the car’s name is catchy – Hao Mao. That translates directly to soft hair, or good cat, which is perhaps a little odd and not quite as catchy. 

With that said, we like the name and reckon it’s a refreshing departure from the usual boring car naming conventions. What do you think?

How much will it cost?

The Standard Ora Good Cat is $3,000 cheaper than the next cheapest EV on the market in NZ, starting at just $49,990 (then $55,990 for the long range).

Once you get the clean car rebate of $8,625, the real cost of the Standard Ora Good Cat is $41,365. Not bad, right?
