5 new car releases in 2021 that you should be excited about
2020 was a bit of a nightmare. We all know the effects the pandemic had on the world and our lives, but most don’t know that several new car releases were delayed until 2021.
Now that the new year’s here (woohoo), we’ve got dozens of exciting new vehicle releases to look forward to. We picked the six that we’re looking forward to most in 2021.
- Kia Stonic
The Kia Stonic is a sporty compact SUV that features a wide range of smart features and a ridiculously low introductory price of $21,990 (for a limited time). It features muscular, modern styling, a choice of 1.4 litre naturally aspirated or 1-litre turbocharged engines, and a 6-speed auto or 7-speed manual gearbox.
This zippy new vehicle may be the baby in the Kia SUV range but it’s already generated huge interest.
- Mazda MX30
Mazda was on a roll in 2019 and 2020 with successful releases like the new Mazda 3 and the CX-5. We reckon that’ll continue into 2021 with the release of the MX30 compact SUV – Mazda’s first fully electric vehicle.
Details of the power source and range aren’t yet confirmed, but we do know a few other exciting tidbits. The vehicle’s design is pillar-less, allowing the front and back doors to swing in opposite directions and fully open up the car for easy access. Inside, sustainable materials like cork and PET have been used to furnish the cabin, and outside, Mazda has gone with a unique 3-tone design that reminds us of the Volvo C40.
- Next gen Mazda BT-50
One of New Zealand’s favourite utes just got better. The all new 2021 Mazda BT-50 has more power, more technology and stronger looks than the older models, promising a superior driving experience.
That includes a 140kW/450Nm 3.0 litre turbo-diesel engine, with an impressive 7.7l/100km fuel economy and up to 3.5 tonnes of braked towing.
- Nissan Ariya
The newly announced Nissan Ariya is one more reason to buy an electric car. This gorgeous compact electric SUV features a striking and futuristic design that looks a tiny bit like Tesla’s infamous Cybertruck.
It’s also got over 600km of range (estimated), automated driving technology and a spacious lounge-like interior.
- Kia electric SUV (rumoured)
In 2019, Kia unveiled a beautiful, futuristic electric SUV concept at the Geneva Motor Show and in 2021, the car is rumoured to be getting a wide release.
The vehicle resembles a slightly squashed version of the Porsche Macan and the GT version is rumoured to have a 0-100km/h time of less than three seconds. What’s more, the SUV is said to feature battery technology that can achieve a full charge in just 20 minutes with almost 500 km of range.
