Nicholson Auto’s collaboration with Morrinsville College Gateway

One of the hardest times during the teenage years is leaving school – it’s a huge change and can leave some students leaving a little lost and unsure. Morrinsville College Gateway is an organisation within the local co-ed college that aims to help students during this transition period by providing work placements in businesses around the community.

This is great not only for school leavers, but also for local businesses who have the chance to hire emerging talent in the area.

Morrinsville College Gateway’s work in the community

When students start approaching school leaving age, the Morrinsville College Gateway’s services are made available to help guide them. The team offers a choice of work placements, as well as valuable advice around choosing a career pathway to help give leavers direction as they transition.

This encourages businesses to hire students fresh out of school, providing them with a leg up to start a rewarding career.

Morrinsville College and the Gateway programme are both very community-orientated organisations, with strong links to a student’s whanau, the business community and the district council. These relationships make them incredibly effective at guiding and nurturing our town’s most valuable asset – our young people.

Nicholson’s long standing friendship with Morrinsville College

The co-ordinator at Morrinsville College Gateway, Jane Thomas, has been a friend of the staff at Nicholson Auto Morrinsville for 30 years. Over that time, Nicholson Auto have provided support to the college through Jane; from sponsoring their fun runs to providing support packages for their sports teams.

We’ve also placed several Gateway students in various departments throughout our business, giving them valuable work experience and occasionally even hiring them full time.

That’s why we were stoked to see Jane walk in the door of Nicholson United Autos Morrinsville looking to purchase a new vehicle to use as the official Morrinsville College Gateway car.

Funnily enough, the salesmen who helped Janet with her car, Kiel Keat, was an ex Morrinsville College student and was happy to organise a discounted vehicle and branded signwriting. Since then, we’ve taken on several more Gateway students, and look forward to helping more in the future.

The whole team at Nicholson Auto would like to thank Jane and the Morrinsville College Gateway team for all the work they do in the community – as well as all the handy apprentices they send our way!
