Revving Up Adventure: Nicholson Autos & Rotorua Trails Trust

Whether you’re meandering through Rotorua’s lush forests on foot or darting down its mountain biking trails, countless hours of dedication shape your journey. The driving force? Rotorua Trails Trust.

The Trails Manager Damian explains their mission: “We want to provide the best possible experience for anyone using human-powered means — walkers, riders, runners, cyclists — to explore and recreate in the vast network of trails surrounding Rotorua.”

Their canvas? The serene Whakarewarewa Forest (The Redwoods), the rolling landscapes of Western Okataina, and the majestic Mt Kakaramea (Rainbow Mountain) — a wonderland for walkers, runners, bikers, and horseback riders.

However, these trails are more than just scenic routes. Attracting over 650,000 people annually, they serve as vital economic arteries, pumping life into the local community with an injection of $30 to $50 million each year. They are recreational paradises and critical economic drivers sustaining the region.

“The vehicle from Nicholson Nissan has been a game-changer for us,” – Damian from Trails Trust

In 2018, with the opening of their new branch in Rotorua, the Nicholson Nissan team quickly recognised the importance of supporting the Rotorua Trails Trust. A commitment to actively engaging in local initiatives, crucial to their mission of building lifelong community relationships, drove their decision to sponsor.

“This ethos of giving back is at the heart of Nicholson Autos,” says Chris Holmes, Nicholson Nissan’s Sales Manager. “As locals, we thoroughly enjoy the various walks and even test our bravery on some mountain biking trails. Supporting the Rotorua Trails Trust as our first major community initiative felt natural, perfectly aligning with our values and experiences in these incredible surroundings.”

Upon presenting the sponsorship idea to Damian, he enthusiastically agreed. Since then, Nicholson Nissan has supplied a Nissan Navara (a 4WD ute) with prominent signwriting that’s become indispensable for the Trust’s daily operations.

“The Nissan Navara from Nicholson Nissan has been a game-changer for us,” explains Damian. “We use it daily, from guiding stakeholders through our forests to running working bee parties and transporting tools to various sites. It’s even played a crucial role in emergencies, helping us transport injured individuals out of the forest. The vehicle has become a part of our team, essential in maintaining and safeguarding our trails.”
