Fueling Community Spirit: Nicholson Autos & Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce

In 2013, Morrinsville buzzed with excitement and local pride as the town prepared to host its first-ever Ranfurly Shield match. It soon became a wonderful Wednesday, with Waikato scoring 85 points against Horowhenua-Kapiti.

The most notable effort took place off the field, however. The Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce worked tirelessly alongside the NPC, Morrinsville Rugby and Dean Nicholson (our Managing Director) to secure the big game. But the Chamber’s CEO, Cathy Belvert, will tell you it’s all in a day’s work.

“Like so many others in the community, the Chamber is proud of its Morrinsville roots, and we do whatever we can to put Morrinsville on the map,” she explains.

A dedicated team of volunteers from the business sector help Cathy run the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce through various committees and sub-committees, and they’re responsible for several annual events that benefit Morrinsville and the wider community. The most notable are the MBS Advisors Fireworks Extravaganza in November and the Cooper Aitken Morrinsville Christmas Parade in December.

“It’s more than just business for us, Morrinsville is where Nicholson Auto started way back in 1980.” – Dean Nicholson

Since 2018, Nicholson Autos has provided the Chamber with a brand new, sign-written Suzuki every six months (or 10,000km) to let Cathy and the wider team focus on what matters — like running the Morrinsville i-SITE Visitor Information Centre, AA Agency and ‘Herd of Cows?’ project.

“I got extremely attached to the car Nicholson Autos gave me for the Ranfurly Shield match all those years ago, and I was sad to see it go,” Cathy adds. “I even suggested to Dean (Nicholson) that I keep it and change the advertising.”

“When the Nicholson Autos team donated a car in 2018, I cheekily told Dean it was better late than never. Long-standing joke aside, the sponsored vehicle has enabled me to attend meetings in the district and conferences out of town. It’s an invaluable tool for my day-to-day and great for promoting the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce and the annual events and activities it is involved with.”

For his part, Dean emphasises that sponsorship opportunities are a crucial part of Nicholson Auto’s vision. “It’s more than just business for us,” Dean notes. “Morrinsville is where Nicholson Autos started way back in 1980.”

“Being actively involved in local initiatives helps us achieve our goal of building lifelong relationships with our community. We believe in giving back, whether through the ‘Best in the World’ standard we hold ourselves to or sponsorship, as contributing to our town’s vibrancy and success is what truly drives us.”

“That’s why we’re staunch supporters of the Morrinsville Chamber of Commerce. Morrinsville wouldn’t be what it is today without the work of Cathy and the wider team.”
